Hope Is Rising in Healthcare
As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday this weekend, I’m reminded that one of our nation’s greatest freedoms is the freedom to answer a calling.
Every physician, nurse, therapist, paramedic, pharmacist, dentist, athletic trainer, technician, and healthcare professional entered medicine because something deep within you said, “This is what I was created to do.”
Yet somewhere along the way, many have become exhausted, discouraged, and burdened by a version of medicine that looks very different from the one they dreamed of serving.
If that describes you, I want you to hear this:
Your purpose still matters.
This Fourth of July, our family built a White Coat Revival parade float to honor every healthcare professional in our community. The float featured a giant white coat surrounding a glowing red heart that reminds us all that the heart of medicine, which is YOU, has never been a system—it has always been the child of God wearing the white coat.
The song we played was “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten because I believe it’s time to fight—not with anger or division—but for the calling God placed on your life. Fight for compassionate, purpose-filled medicine. Fight for hope. Fight for the freedom to practice as the healer God created you to become.
Additionally, on Wednesday this week, I spent seven hours watching GoldCare’s national healthcare webinar led by Dr. Simone Gold. Listening to physicians and leaders discuss practical ways to restore healthcare reminded me that there are many people across our nation working toward meaningful change. As I listened to Dr. Gold and her amazing speakers, I couldn’t help but think:
God is moving in great acceleration! He is awakening hearts. He is restoring purpose. He is bringing together people who have been praying for healthcare to become what they always believed it could be.
Between the White Coat Revival parade float honoring those who answered the calling into medicine in my little community in Munds Park, Arizona, and the many voices working to restore healthcare across America, I believe one thing with all my heart:
Hope is rising.
Together, let’s restore the heart of medicine and continue to steer medicine back on the path God intended it to be.
