Are You in Position to Receive?

Are You in Position to Receive?

Last week, I wrote about the stop signs God sometimes allows along our path.

The closed door. The unexpected ending. The relationship that shifted. The plan that suddenly stopped moving forward.

But God has continued speaking to me about what comes next.

Because the stop sign may redirect us—but then we must be willing to move into a new position.

I spent many years standing on the sidelines of football fields as an athletic trainer. And there is something powerful about watching a receiver run a route.

The quarterback may see the opening before the receiver does. He releases the football toward the place the receiver is supposed to be—not necessarily where he is at that moment.

The receiver must trust the play, run the route, and get into position. If he stops too soon, turns the wrong direction, or keeps running the old route, the ball may fall untouched to the ground.

The pass was released. The provision was there.

But he had to be in position to receive it.

And lately, I have wondered how often God is doing something similar in our lives.

What if God has already released the wisdom, provision, relationships, opportunities, and direction we have been praying for—but they are connected to a position He is asking us to move into?

Andrew Wommack often teaches that God has already done everything; we simply need to position ourselves to receive what He has provided.

That does not mean we earn God’s blessings through perfect behavior. And it certainly does not mean that every hardship exists because we did something wrong.

It means there are times when receiving what God has prepared requires our participation.

It may require us to move.

To release something.

To change our thinking.

To rest instead of strive.

To leave what is familiar.

To stop attempting to reopen the door God just closed.

Look what God said to Abram in Genesis 12.

God told him:

“Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.” — Genesis 12:1 NIV

Then God said:

“I will bless you… and you will be a blessing.” — Genesis 12:2 NIV

The blessing was promised, but Abram had to move toward the place God was showing him.

He was not given every detail before he left.

He did not have a map of the entire journey.

He simply had God’s voice, God’s promise, and an invitation to move.

Abram’s obedience positioned him for what God had already planned.

Perhaps that is where some of us are today.

We have been standing at the stop sign, grieving what ended, while God is saying:

“The stop sign was not the destination. I was redirecting you. Now I need you to move.”

Maybe your new position is a different job or practice setting.

Maybe it is a new schedule that makes room for rest, family, and time with God.

Maybe it is releasing an opportunity that looks successful but is no longer aligned with your assignment.

Maybe it is changing the mindset that says everything depends upon you.

Maybe it is returning to the vision God originally gave you before outside voices complicated it.

Or perhaps your position is not primarily physical at all.

It may be a position of trust.

A position of surrender.

A position of expectancy.

A position of stillness that allows you to see what God is revealing in the Spirit.

For those of us practicing medicine, positioning can affect everything. When we are positioned in rest rather than striving, we can think more clearly. When our minds and hearts are aligned with God, we can recognize wisdom we might otherwise miss.

When we are in the right assignment, our work carries greater meaning and purpose.

And when we enter the patient encounter attentive to both clinical evidence and the leading of the Holy Spirit, we become more available to witness what God desires to do—even outcomes that surpass what we believed was naturally possible.

This is not a formula for controlling outcomes.

It is an invitation to become available to God.

Sometimes the right position is the right place at the right time.

Sometimes it is the right job, relationship, or opportunity.

And sometimes it is simply approaching the same circumstances with a renewed mind, open hands, and spiritual vision.

So today, I encourage you to ask:

“Lord, am I positioned to receive what You have for me?”

“Is there an old position You are asking me to leave?”

“Where are You inviting me to move—even if I cannot yet see the entire path?”

Then get still enough to listen.

The answer may require courage.

Abram had to leave what was known before he could enter what had been promised.

And you may need to release the old route before you can run toward the place where God is sending the pass.

That stop sign was not necessarily stopping your purpose.

It may have been turning you toward it.

Now is the time to lift your eyes, listen for God’s direction, and get into position.

What He has prepared may be waiting along the path of your next obedient step.

“Now the Lord had said to Abram: Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing.”
